The rose embodies the union of opposites. On the one hand, it is symbolic of love, beauty, purity, completion, resurrection, hope, and life. But on the other hand, it is symbolic of pain, suffering, martyrdom, blood, and death. It is both heavenly perfection and earthly passion.
